Ink Engine · Privacy

This notice applies to this app. Review the data flows, permissions and deletion limits for the functions you use.

Version: 2026-10-15. Applies to the current offline version of Ink Engine. Operated and supported by AILife Lab. Privacy and technical support: sherardchina@gmail.com.

Processing on your device

No account is required. Documents, folder indexes, reading positions, bookmarks, editing history, pronunciation rules, voice settings and generated audio are stored locally. On Mac, you can edit original files authorized through the system picker; on iPhone and iPad, you can import documents and manage local copies. The built-in ZipVoice and Mac Qwen models synthesize speech on your device and do not upload document text to us or third-party speech servers. Apple system voices are provided by system services. Voice downloads and system service behavior are governed by Apple's policies and your system settings.

Nearby device sync

When you use Nearby Devices, the app discovers devices, establishes connections and transfers selected content over the local network. Remembered devices may be rediscovered at startup or when the app returns to the foreground. Discovery information includes the device name and part of a random identifier generated by this app; other participants on the local network may see this information. After both devices verify the pairing code and confirm, documents and selected items, including folder information and reading progress, are encrypted and sent directly to the target device without our relay servers. Pair only with trusted devices.

If you remember a pairing, local preferences store device identifiers, trusted device names and associated public keys. The app's pairing private key is stored in the system Keychain. Revoking trust requires pairing again for future connections. Old key records may remain in Keychain; uninstalling the app or revoking trust does not necessarily clear all Keychain records. Revoking trust does not delete documents already sent to another device.

Permissions and external services

Local network access is used to discover and connect to nearby devices. Denying it does not affect local editing, reading or built-in offline voices. File access is controlled by the system picker and sandbox authorization. The app does not request microphone, camera, location, contacts or advertising tracking permissions. It includes no advertising, cross-app tracking, analytics instrumentation or third-party crash reporting SDK.

When you choose system sharing, external browser preview, a website or a support email, information is passed to the app or service you select. Your cloud file provider, operating system backups, Apple diagnostics or store services may process data under their own policies. The app has no custom cloud backup service. Visiting our website or GitHub sends normal web request information to those sites; offline reading does not require those visits.

Retention, deletion and control

Local documents and reading data are retained to provide app features until you delete them in the app or system file tools. Cache & Bookmarks provides corresponding cleanup controls. Removing history entries, generated audio or offline copies does not necessarily delete Mac originals, exported files, system backups or copies on other devices. Uninstalling the iPhone or iPad app normally deletes its local container data; Keychain entries and backups may be retained separately by the system. Back up important documents yourself. On Mac, clearing the cache also permanently deletes private drafts within the selected scope that have been removed from History, have no external file and are not referenced by a folder, together with their bookmarks, previous versions, reading positions and audio cache. The currently open document is kept.

We do not hold your local documents and cannot read or remotely delete them. For privacy support, contact the email above. Do not send entire documents, keys, certificates or other sensitive materials. When you send an email, your email address and information you choose to provide are processed by your email service. We use them only to handle your request and retain or delete the correspondence as needed after resolution. You may request deletion of support correspondence under our control, except records required by law.

Minors and policy updates

This is a general-purpose document tool with no public content community. We do not actively request age or information about minors. Minors should manage documents and sharing under a guardian's guidance. If cloud speech, accounts or data collection are introduced, we will update this policy and store disclosures before enabling them and provide notice and obtain authorization where required. The current version does not automatically use cloud speech.
